SPICE GIRLS TIPPED TO PERFORM AT THE CLOSING CEREMONY OF THE LONDON OLYMPICS

The Spice girls were conspicuously absent at the opening ceremony of the London games. Their absence was noted by quite a few people cognizant of the iconic status of the 90's British super-group. Though the line up of acts for the closing ceremony for the London games is being kept a secret there is speculation that the Spice girls, George Micheal, Muse and Ed Sheehan will be performing at the closing event dubbed ''a symphony of British music''. It will feature more than 4,000 performers including 380 school children.
The artistic Director of the ceremony, Kim Gavin said on Saturday ''we want it to be the best after show-party there has ever been''.
The London Olympic is officially wrapping up tomorrow, London will hand over to Rio and the Olympic flame will be extinguished. The closing ceremony will start at 7pm Sunday evening.If the opening ceremony is anything to go by, viewers should expect quite a show.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip will be absent from the event.

FEMALE BANKER TO REPRESENT NIGERIA AT THE OLYMPICS

Esther Obiekwe a banker in the corporate banking division of Diamond bank plc will make history as the first woman to represent Nigeria in the country's first ever Olympic marathon event when she participates in
the London marathon on August 5. She was nominated by the Athletic federation of Nigeria to represent the country at the Olympics. Although she is not a full time runner she has participated in some of the world's top marathons including Athens, Berlin, Boston and Dubai. The Olympic marathon will hold on the 5th of August.

OPENING CEREMONY OF THE LONDON OLYMPICS AIRING TONIGHT


Sydney showed the world the wonders of water, passing the Olympic torch through water without the fire going out, Athens was a return to the birth place of the Olympics with beautiful references to history, art and mythicism while China gave the world the greatest show on earth, spending a staggering $100 million on the opening ceremony, amazing the world with science by holding the rain on the day of the opening ceremony. Now it's London's turn and they have the herculean task of trying to impress the world after the ''out of this world'' Beijing 2008. The world-wide broadcast of the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics will be airing at 9pm this night. The show titled the ''isles of wonder'' will kick off with the sound of the largest harmonically tuned bell in Europe with the Stadium magically transformed into the British countryside for the opening scene ''green and pleasant'' which would involve real farm animals. The ceremony will also include a special sequence celebrating the best of British, featuring volunteer performers from the National health service.
Danny Boyle, the artistic director of the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony said '' our isles of wonder salutes and celebrates the exuberant creativity of the British genius in an opening ceremony that we hope will be as unpredictable and inventive as the British people''

LONDON 2012 OLYMPICS KICKS OFF TODAY

The London 2012 is on! The first event of the Olympic games kicked off at 4.00pm in Cardiff today with a football match between the female teams Great Britain and New Zealand , The official opening ceremony for the London games is holding on Friday the 27th . Heathrow airport is processing 3,700 more athletes, coaches,officials and media to fill up the Athletes village in the sprawling Olympic park in East London.

DANIELLE ALAKIJA IS YOUNGEST OLYMPIAN AT LONDON 2012

Danielle Alakija is 16 years of age and was born to British parents of Nigerian descent and will be representing Fiji not Nigeria at the London Olympics. She will be competing in the 200 and 400 metre races.

Born in England to Ricki and Yodi Alakija, she lived in Fiji for 14 years but now studies and trains in The United states. She is trained by Maurice Green, 4 time Olympic champion and her personal best times going into the Olympics are 24.32 seconds for the 200metres and 55 seconds for the 400metres.

SAUDI ARABIA'S FEMALE OLYMPIANS

Sarah Attar is representing Saudi Arabia in the 800 mtrs at the olympics
Saudi Arabia is sending women to the Olympics for the first time. two women have qualified for participation on the Saudi team to the London Olympics, they are Sarah Attar,17 an 800mt long distance runner and Wodjan Ali Shahrkhan, a Judoka. Qatar and Brunei are also sending female athletes for the first time.
While in the UK representing Saudi Arabia, the women must abide by strict Sharia rules. They must not mix with men at the games, they must attend with a male guardian and they must wear clothing that adheres strictly to Sharia law.
The ancient Greek Olympics did not allow for female participation, the Paris Olympic of 1900 was the first time women were allowed to participate.

NIGERIA'S BASKETBALL TEAM QUALIFY FOR LONDON OLYMPICS

The Nigerian team qualified for the London Olympics last night in  Caracas by beating the Dominican Republic 88-73.
The Tigers had to make an outfit change from their green and white jerseys to all white during the course of the game. Ike Diogu and Aminu Junior were the star players of the game with Diogu eventually winning the MVP.
With the win, Nigeria joins Tunisia as Africa's second representative at the London 2012.

NIGERIAN PLAYS TO BE STAGED FOR THE LONDON OLYMPICS




Three Nigerian plays Fred Agbeyegbe's ''The king must dance naked'', Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka's ''The lion and the jewel'' and Sefi Attah's ''The naming ceremony'' are to be staged in the U.K as part of the London Olympics. Olu Jacobs,Joke Sylva, OC Ukeje, Bimbo Akintola,Kemi Lala Akindoju, Segun Arinze, Keppy Ekpenyong and Ijeoma Agu are all part of the production cast of the plays staged by Lufodo productions.

OLU JACOBS, JOKE SYLVA, BIMBO AKINTOLA FOR TEAM NIGERIA AT THE LONDON OLYMPICS

On Sunday July 18th 2012, Team Nigeria would be welcomed to London by the Central association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (CANUK) at a classy dinner at the La Royale Banqueting Suites. Nigerian  High Commisioner to the United Kingdom Dr Sarki Dalhatu Tafida will chair the occassion.
Over 50 Nollywood celebrities expected in attendance include Olu Jacobs, Joke Sylva, Segun Arinze, Bimbo Akintola, Keppy Ekpenyong, OC Ukeje and others. The London 2012 Olympic games starts July 27th.
