BOKO HARAM IN PEACE TALKS WITH GOVERNMENT?

According to the voice of America, a spokesperson for the militant Islamic group, Boko Haram, Habu Mohammed claims that the sect is engaged in talks with the government in a bid to end the violence inflicted in the northern part of Nigeria.
In a statement obtained by the VOA Habu Mohammed who claims to be a deputy to Boko Haram leader Sheikh Abubakar Shekau says the militant group decided to initiate the discussion in response to numerous appeals for peace in the country. The sataement was given to the VOA in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The Nigerian government has not officially confirmed whether or not it is in peace talks with the group.

Boko Haram has been responsible for a slew of deadly attacks in Northern Nigeria including the bombing of the U.N building in Abuja.

NIGERIAN PARENTS JAILED IN THE U.K FOR BEATING THEIR CHILDREN

A Nigerian couple in the U.K, Joseph and Gloria Musa were jailed for 7 years each for beating their children, claiming they were possessed by evil spirits! They beat their children with brooms, wires and hoovers and gave their one year old baby a morphine overdose which nearly killed her.
 Five of the kids were rescued when when the eldest passed a heart wrenching note out through the window of their home. The note read '' my mum is the worst mum ever because she can't cope with the five of us, her broken hand and being pregnant, she always leaves me out, so i always starve and i am forced to work. if i don't get enough housework done, i am beaten without mercy with the wooden end of a broom. i have scars all over me to prove it. i can't stay here, i would like a new mum''. The note was found by a neighbor who called the police.
The couple claimed they were victims of a conspiracy and alleged that there was a witch-hunt against them by a prosecution witness, who they claim gave evidence because she wanted to ''steal'' their children away from them.
As they left court after the sentencing, the couple screamed their innocence ''we are innocent, this is a miscarriage of justice. The two will be deported back home after they serve their sentence.

POLICE OFFICIALLY DROP MURDER CHARGE AGAINST BANKER SUSPECTED TO HAVE KILLED LASTMA OFFICIAL

Mrs Yinka Johnson, the staff of Standard IBTC who was alleged to have killed a LASTMA official while on duty has been freed of the murder charge brought against her by the Nigerian police. On further investigation of the case, the Police, LASTMA officials, eyewitnesses and members of the press visited the scene of the accident on Monday and determined that it was not Mrs Johnson's car that hit and killed the deceased LASTMA official, Hammed Balogun. The Police officially dropped the case after convincing eye witness accounts, coupled with video and pictures of how the accident happened.

She was instead charged with one-count of reckless driving and made an appearance in court today.She was granted bail and the case was adjourned by the judge till the 3rd of September.

PHCN WORKERS WITH SCHOOL CERTIFICATE TO GET 8 MILLION NAIRA SEVERANCE PACKAGE

The severance package to be paid by the Federal governmment to PHCN staff in the on-going privatisation process will range from 8 million to 38 million. The least qualified staff with a school certificate holder will go home with 8 million while the highest officer would go home with 38 million. The Minister of power, Bart Nnaji revealed this on Monday while addressing State house correspondents in Abuja after a briefing with President Goodluck Jonathan.

The Minister refuted the insinuations from several quarters that the PHCN staff were receiving a flat payment of N85,000. ''the talk about some staff going home with N85,000 is from people who have a different mission'', ''the PHCN unions are constituting themselves as outlaws'' the Minister commented.
