The Kano state Hisbah board arrested 20 people for deliberate non-compliance with the tenets of the Ramadan fasting period of not eating and drinking. The affected individuals will be held by authorities for three days to learn how to fast.
Plain clothes personnel of the Hisbah board have been conducting raids in different parts of Kano aimed at arresting Muslims who have refused to observe the Ramadan fast. The individuals nabbed also include women. Muslim women in Islamic law are exempted from fasting during their monthly cycles.
